Bodies of four missing teenage boys found as tributes pour in

North Wales Police have confirmed they have found the bodies of four teenage boys who went missing on a camping trip, as tributes pour in.

The force confirmed on Tuesday afternoon (November 21st) that four bodies were recovered from an overturned car which was ‘partially submerged’. The vehicle was located after a tip-off from a member of the public.

The car is believed to have come off the road on the A4085 in Garreg, near Tremadog, Gwynedd. Superintendent Owain Llewellyn said it ‘appears to have been a tragic accident’.

Jevon Hirst, Harvey Owen, 16, Wilf Henderson, 17, and Hugo Morris, 18, were last seen on Sunday (November 19th) after they headed out on what is believed to be a camping trip to Snowdonia.

The friends were travelling in a silver Ford Fiesta with the registration plate number HY14GVO. All four were students at Shrewsbury College and were studying A-levels.

A search party was deployed to find the boys as rescue efforts involved air ambulances, mountain rescue, and coastguards. 

The force said the boys’ families had been informed and the search had now finished, though inquiries are still ongoing to formally identify those in the vehicle. Police continue investigations to establish the circumstances leading up to the tragedy.

In a statement yesterday, Superintendent Owain Llewellyn said: “Police attended and located a Ford Fiesta on its roof and partially submerged in water.

“The bodies of four young males were recovered, and their families have been informed.

“Our thoughts are with the families. I would like to thank the emergency services, volunteer search teams, and members of the public who helped with the search.”

Crystal Owen, Harvey’s mother, said in a tribute posted on Facebook: “Nothing will make this nightmare go away. I just wanted to say I do appreciate people’s kindness but no amount of messages is going to help me overcome this.”

Maddi Corfield, the girlfriend of Wilf, wrote: “I’m going to miss you forever. The sweetest and most loving boy I’ve ever known. I hope you know how much I love you, gorgeous.

“Thank you for all the time you’ve spent with me… thank you for loving me endlessly. I promise I’ll do the same for you, my sweet, sweet angel.

“I can’t imagine my world without you. I’m missing you so much already, but I am going to enjoy life the way you would’ve wanted, the way that you made me feel.”

In a statement, Shrewsbury Colleges Group called it ‘truly heartbreaking’ and ‘tragic’ adding: “Our thoughts go out to those affected”.

The college said it would be working directly with affected students and staff and had ‘put in place a range of support measures for all our community’.

Shrewsbury And Atcham MP, Daniel Kawczynsk said: “Yesterday evening I received messages of condolences from friends across the political spectrum in the House of Commons.

“The whole country were desperately hoping the boys would be found safe and well and this news is devastating.”
