A beauty salon in Merseyside that claimed coronavirus is a hoax has been ordered to close by the council.

The salon, Skin Kerr, in Bootle, Merseyside was found with not only inadequate coronavirus safety measures but also posters denying the existence of the virus.

The signs in the shops read ‘Covid free salon, no masks, we take cash, Covid talk is banned, you can’t catch what doesn’t exist’.

The salon had received warnings regarding the lack of safety measures and the signs from Sefton Council.

Councillor Paulette Lappin said: “It is the responsibility of businesses across Sefton to ensure they have the required measures in place to protect their staff and their customers from Covid-19 infection and we know most of them are doing their utmost to comply.

“However, when businesses refuse to comply and insist on putting people at risk, we will not hesitate to take action.”

The salon promised to abide by the coronavirus rules following a visit from Sefton Council’s environmental health seam in September, however, they failed to do so which resulted in a closure last week.

Since then, Skin Kerr updated customers on Facebook in a post that read: “Just a little update to let everyone know, we are still open and trading.

“For all our lovely clients messaging to make sure everything’s ok thank you so much for your ongoing support, see you all soon.”

The post has received a range of comments. One person wrote: “Glad to hear all ok. Really admired your stance. Loved poster.”

Another questioned ‘so they didn’t shut you down?’, to which the salon responded ‘no’.
