The mother of Baby P will be freed from prison after the Parole Board rejected a Government challenge against its ruling to release her.
Tracey Connelly could be out of prison within weeks after after board judges refused the bid by Justice Secretary Dominic Raab to keep her imprisoned for longer.
Raab has slammed the decision, saying it is evidence as to why the Parole Board needs a ‘fundamental overhaul’.
He wrote on Twitter this afternoon: “Tracey Connelly’s cruelty towards her son, baby Peter, was pure evil.
“The decision to release her demonstrates why the parole board needs a fundamental overhaul – including a ministerial check for the most serious offenders – so that it serves and protects the public.”
Tracey Connelly, now forty, was jailed indefinitely with a minimum term of five years in 2009 over the death of her seventeen-month-old son, who died after suffering more than fifty injuries following months of abuse.
When eventually released, Connelly will reportedly have to undergo twenty-four-hour GPS tracking and provide the details of any people she becomes romantically involved with, according to The Sun.
She will also be required to away from drugs and alcohol, as well as face frequent lie detector tests to prove she isn’t re-offending.
Connelly was initially released in 2013 on a lifelong licence, but was recalled to jail in 2015 after breaching its terms by selling nude photographs of herself on the internet.
Baby P was found dead in his home in north London on August 3rd 2007 with fifty injuries inflicted by Connelly, her partner Steven Barker and his brother Jason Owen.
His horrific injuries included a snapped spine and eight broken ribs.
Baby P died while being on the at-risk register, which saw him receive sixty visits from social workers, police and health professionals during the final eight months of his life.
