The supermarket giant is giving some of its customers a hot meal and unlimited tea and coffee for £1 from today.

Asda is bringing back its ‘Winter Warmer’ initiative to its cafes .

From today (November 1st) until the end of February, the supermarket chain is offering people aged 60 and over the chance to have a bowl of hot soup with a bread roll and unlimited tea and coffee for just £1.

The Winter Warmer offer is available at all of its 205 cafes across the country.

It’s available all day everyday for eligible shoppers to enjoy and runs alongside Asda’s ‘Kids eat for £1’ offer.

The retailer says this offer has seen more than 2.6 million meals served since its launch in June 2022, and over 180,000 in the last four weeks alone.

The supermarket launched its Winter Warmer menu last year in a bid to help older customers during the rising costs of living.

It said people aged between 65 and 74 experienced a £163 year-on-year drop in disposable income in August 2022.

According to Asda, it served over 650,000 £1 soup meals over a two-month period.

Because of this, the supermarket giant is extending its Winter Warmer offer right through until the end of February 2024 to help older customers over the colder months.

Kris Comerford, Asda’s chief commercial officer, said: “We know winter is set to be incredibly hard for thousands of pensioners as they continue to worry about how to keep themselves warm in the face of rising living costs and on a fixed income.”

He added: “Last year we served over 650,000 meals to the over 60’s in two months, by bringing the initiative back for 2023 and extending it until February we hope it will prove just as impactful across the winter months for those who need it most.”

Selected Asda cafes also run a ‘Community Cuppa’ campaign, creating a welcoming space for community groups to meet, who may otherwise struggle to do so due to rental and high energy costs.

The Community Cuppa spaces are available on weekdays in November and December from 2pm-6pm and offer free tea and coffee for all community group members who visit.
