Asda is the first supermarket to offer Covid vaccinations in-store

Asda is set to offer in-store Covid vaccinations across the UK this month.

Thanks to a collaboration with the NHS, Asda will be delivering its first Covid jabs in Birmingham from January 25th.

Acting as a vaccine centre, jabs will be delivered by Asda pharmacy staff to priority groups identified by the NHS.

While the Birmingham store has been approved for the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, Asda has said the NHS can use all of its 238 pharmacies to help with the rollout of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.

This vaccine is easier to transport and store, with Asda saying it could be administered from all of its in-store pharmacies throughout the UK.

Asda president Roger Burnley said: “We are incredibly proud to provide this service and are keen to do all we can to help the NHS and Government accelerate the rollout of the vaccination programme.

“We have an extensive nationwide logistics network that could support the storage and distribution of the vaccine and our highly-trained pharmacy colleagues are experienced in delivering large vaccination programmes, having recently provided nearly 200,000 flu jabs to members of the public.

“We are on hand to provide the NHS with any practical support required so that more people can quickly receive the vaccine.”

In Manchester, a vaccination centre opened on Monday at the Etihad Campus, to begin vaccinations with those over 80 in the region.

Health and care workers within a 45-minute drive of the centre can also be vaccinated.
