The education secretary has announced that UK schools will close from Friday.
It comes after it was revealed earlier today that schools in Wales and Scotland would be shutting from Friday, with Northern Irish schools closing their doors to pupils from today.
They will stay shut until further notice.
Gavin Williamson, the education secretary, said it’s time to make school closures, adding that the balance of risk has changed, with schools struggling to stay open.
The only exception will be the children of key workers, and children who are vulnerable, who will be able to stay in school.
Health workers, police officers and people who deliver food who are parents will have to continue to go to work, so some provisions will have to be made for the kids of these people.
According to Boris Johnson, nurseries and private schools are also being asked to close, with the government reimbursing the cost.
The Prime Minister also advised that kids shouldn’t be left with any older grandparents or vulnerable people.
He also thanked people for complying with the measure already in place, adding that he ‘will not hesitate to go further and faster’ in the days ahead.
