Emirates is now offering to pay money towards your funeral if you catch coronavirus when flying with them and die.

It’s a very strange new tactic from Dubai based airline, but in these odd and uncertain times, it seems businesses will try just about anything to instill confidence back into consumers, particularly when it comes to air travel.

This very new form of insurance offered by the firm will cover your medical treatment, hotel quarantine costs and even your funeral if you get the virus while travelling with Emirates.

Emirates Group Chairman, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, said:  “We know people are yearning to fly as borders around the world gradually re-open, but they are seeking flexibility and assurances should something unforeseen happen during their travel.”

The statement comes after the travel industry struggles to restart and gain pre-corona numbers.

Passenger numbers remain low as many people remain cautious about travelling to avoid the possibility of catching coronavirus, or in case quarantine plans are put in place upon returning to the UK.

The new insurance will cover up to £135,000 in medical expenses and £90 per day for your ‘quarantine costs’ for up to 14 days.

This means you can get your hotel covered should you need to quarantine after travelling.

The rather strange addition to the new insurance is the £1,350 Emirates will contribute to the cost of a funeral, should a passenger catch Covid-19 while flying with them and die.

The insurance is automatically added to each passenger’s ticket, effective immediately at no extra charge to the customer.

It will be valid for up to 31 days from the date of travel. But you’ll have to be quick if you want to take this opportunity, as the insurance is only applicable on tickets until the end of October.

What do you think, is the idea of the airline paying for your funeral enough to make you book a flight and jet off in the middle of the pandemic?
