A new highly anticipated inclusive adventure play park is ready for opening in Greater Manchester this weekend, and families are excited to finally check it out.
The brand new park is now complete at Pennington Flash nature reserve in Leigh, Wigan, and features some fantastic wooden climbing frames, swings and plenty more for the youngsters to enjoy.
Situated next to the Hide Coffee House, which opened in March, the accessible play area also features a ‘toddler lake’ for the little ones.
The nature-themed attraction was created by Wigan Council in partnership with Natural England, Lancashire Wildlife Trust and Leigh Ornithological Society and is part of a £2.7m makeover of the much-loved beauty spot — now part of the Flashes of Wigan and Leigh National Nature Reserve.
It was also designed with input given from local residents and families and an official opening of the site, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, will take place at the weekend.
The Flashes Festival of Nature will take place on Sunday July 16th, packed with loads of fun family-friendly activities from 11-3pm including, nature walks, foraging photography, face painting, nature stalls, eco crafts, accessible trails and wild art.
Families have given the thumbs up to the play area after seeing first look pictures shared online and can’t wait to take their children from Sunday’s opening where kids will have the chance to enjoy the nature-themed park just in time for the school holidays.
Other features of the nature reserve’s makeover include new accessible toilets along with upgrades to parking — with added electric vehicle charging points.
Wigan Mayor Councillor Kevin Anderson will officially open the play area on Sunday at 10.30am.
