While people are spoiled for choice when it comes to Asian restaurants here in Manchester, there’s a lesser known spot serving some of the most celebrated foods from across the continent.
Wanago has boomed in popularity since its opening in West Didsbury last year, with people flocking from all across the city to sample its wide range of pan-Asian inspired street food.
Wanago’s owner Mohammad was first inspired to bring a taste of Eastern-Asia to Manchester after living in Korea and the Philippines for over a decade.
After lengthy discussions and a bit of his own market research, Mohammad came to the realisation that while Manchester’s food scene was on the up, it still lacked restaurants that served truly authentic Asian food.

And this where the idea for Wanago was born.
The restaurant opened in April last year and, today, the head chef continues to use his experience from Korea, Japan and the Philippines to serve authentic pan-Asian street food to the people of Manchester.
Menu highlights include Wanago’s ramen bowls, which come homemade broth, fresh noodles and a selection of Asian vegetables and meat.
Favourites include the traditional Pork Charsiu Ramen with miso or soy base broths, Charsiu pork, spring onions, egg, beansprouts and sesame seeds, and the Wanago Special Ramen with miso broth, sirloin steak teriyaki, truffle oil, leeks, sesame seeds, pakchoi, and egg.

Also on the menu is a selection of freshly made steamed Bao Buns, with Pork Charsui, Korean Chicken and Tofu Karrage being up for grabs. All buns are served with cucumber, onions and Asian salad.
As well as these, Wanago is famed for its vast curry and stir-fry selection, with dishes ranging from a traditional Thai Green Curry to a more experimental Yasai Itamae (Japanese stir fry).
And for the street bites section of the menu, diners will find a selection of spring rolls, gyozas, spicy Korean chicken wings and salt and pepper chips.
