Northern Quarter bar unveils ‘exploding’ deep-fried burrata and red velvet french toast on new menu

Deep fried buratta. I repeat, deep fried buratta

We take our food seriously here at Proper Manchester, so when The Pen and Pencil launched its new menu we just had to have a nosey.

And rest assured, we weren’t disappointed.

The Northern Quarter bar’s new Autumn menu boasts a whole array of exciting and tasty new additions, including mouth-watering mains like braised lamb shank, shakshuka and eggs and even a mac and cheese burger.

But the definite star of the show is the deep-fried ‘exploding’ burrata. Now, for those of you a little late to the trendy cheese party; burrata is a soft Italian cheese not unlike mozzarella, and it has been making waves across the city recently.

But The Pen and Pencil’s ‘burrata bomb’ is a little different to the rest because it is stuffed with pesto, breaded and then deep fried and served with a homemade tomato relish.

When you cut into it, the burrata ‘explodes’ and oozes in that wonderfully cheesy manner that we all know and love.

And on the dessert side of things, the chefs have knocked it out of the park with their red velvet french toast. Now, we’ll be the first to admit that red velvet isn’t typically associated with french toast but we can now confirm that it works.

The Pen and Pencil’s answer to the favourite brunch dish is served with Mascarpone Cheese, fresh fruit, maple syrup and a sprinkling of toasted nuts.

Lovely.

There’s tons of other tasty stuff up for grabs – including a full brunch menu – so make sure to check out their full food menu here and get yourself booked in here
