Could this be the most Manc answer to Mexican food to ever grace our plates?

Yes, it certainly could be.

Now, we’re certainly no strangers to gravy-soaked treats up in the glorious North – we love it on our Sunday roasts, our bangers and mash, and even slathered on our chips. But have we ever tried it on quesadillas?

For those familiar with the humble quesadilla, the Mexican staple usually features corn or flour tortillas, salsa, cheese and a whole array of meats, fish and vegetables. Sound pretty perfect as they are, don’t they?

But never before has any ambitious chef dared to add a British twist on quesadillas – well, that was until The Quesadilla Crew came to town.

The Crew already have an impressive range of fillings on offer, and have even recently created the ‘Pizzadilla‘ using sourdough tortillas, cheese and a tomato marinara dip – literally a mix of pizza and quesadilla.

But the one that everyone’s talking about is the ‘birria quesatacos’, a large corn tortilla filled with 12hr Oxtail, Queso Oaxaca, plenty of cheese and a chilli-spiked consomé – or gravy, to us Mancs – on the side.

A little slice of heaven, if you ask me.

The Quesadilla Crew don’t currently have a fixed location, and have been operating as a pop up in various venues across Greater Manchester.

However, they are now taking bookings for their pop up at GRUB’s Latin Week that will be commencing from June 30th – July 2nd.

If you want to secure a seat for to enjoy the most Northern quesadilla you’ll ever have in your life, visit GRUB’s website here.
