Just when you thought Manchester’s butty offering couldn’t get any better, Chorlton has welcomed an epic new sandwich spot serving up an array of mammoth butties.

Now, sandwiches have been a staple part of a Mancunian’s diet since around 1762, when the first ever butty is believed to have been created.

The man behind the humble sandwich was known as John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich (yes, that was a real title). Montagu had apparently asked the house cook to bring him something he could eat without getting up from his seat while he spent hours at the gambling table.

Thus, the first sandwich was born and, ever since that fateful day, the world has gone a bit sandwich mad, with hundreds of varieties of the tasty, bready concoction being experimented with and devoured.

And now, while Mancunians have always been spoiled for choice on the butty front, there’s a new spot taking the city’s sandwich game to the next level. Introducing Fat Pat’s

Located in Chorlton, the newly opened Fat Pat’s is making quite a name for itself with its impressive selection of three eight inch subs with a mix of both traditional and experimental fillings.

All their subs come on an eight inch milk roll and contain fresh ingredients made on the same day; the meatballs for the Italian Meatball are house-minced meatballs, covered in marinara sauce, double mozzarella, house seasoning, parmigiana reggiano, and fresh basil. A classic sandwich done impeccably well.

Another menu highlight is the Cheesesteak, made with prime house ribeye steak sliced thinly and chopped on the grill. The butty is then loaded with caramelised onions, cheese whiz, and finished with crispy shallots.

And finally, there is the Hot Honey Fried Chicken sub, which consists of double chicken cutlet, hot honey, house spice mix, lettuce, tomatoes, banana pickles, a buttermilk ranch sauce, and Crystals hot sauce.

While the menu is limited to just three subs at the moment, the team at Fat Pat’s are working on vegetarian and vegan options and plan to expand in the new year, so keep an eye out for some exciting new additions soon.

Fat Pat’s are open Fridays – Sundays 12pm until gone, and operate on both a delivery and walk-in basis. Head over to their website for menu info and to pre-order your own butty.
