Grandmas and Grandads can swap their hot cross buns for sushi this Easter thanks to YO! Sushi’s ‘Bring Your Own Grandparent’ scheme.

After discovering that a massive 50% of grandparents in the UK have never tried Japanese food, the restaurant chain set themselves the challenge to get British grandparents trying ‘something new’ during the holidays.

According to YO! Sushi, over half of those over the age of fifty-five haven’t ever tried sushi, while 75% haven’t tried Vietnamese. And, shockingly, 19% hadn’t ever tried an Indian curry.

Their research also found that almost a quarter of prefer ‘traditional British fayre’, while a similar number confessed to being picky eaters.

In response to this, Yo Sushi says it now wants to encourage the older generation to ‘expand their taste buds into the world of sushi, katsu, gyoza, edamame and wasabi’ by offering free sushi throughout the Easter holidays.

Victoria Mathers, UK head of marketing at YO! said: “Japanese food isn’t as daunting as it may seem, it’s full of colourful and exciting flavours!

“We cater for all ages, so Grandparents are very welcome at YO! – we can’t wait to welcome as many as possible to dine for free during the Easter holidays.

“We look forward to welcoming your Granny and Gramps to our restaurants, and hope they discover something new to tickle their taste buds.”

All grandparents will be welcome to tuck in for free up to the value of £15 for every £20 spent on food by the accompanying person.

A maximum of two grandparents per table can eat for free, and grandparents must be dining with at least one grandchild.

The Bring Your Own Grandparent offer is available for one week only from Monday April 11th to Monday April 18th across all YO! Sushi restaurants.
