McDonald’s has ruffled feathers among its fan base today with the removal of a staple breakfast item.

The fast-food giant made the tragic announcement this morning, where it revealed it has ‘parted ways’ with two popular items from its breakfast menu.

Posting across its social media platforms, McDonald’s announced that the bagels and breakfast wraps from the menu have been permanently discontinued.

Adopting a jokey and lighthearted tone, the announcement read: “Despite speculation and following a trial separation period, Breakfast Bagels & Breakfast Wraps will not be returning to the menu.

“We adore each other deeply but our love for the iconic McMuffin was simply too hard to ignore.

“We want our fans to know this is a mutual decision, to the extent that a bagel can make its own decision.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported our union. As for the rumours that there will be a new breakfast bae on the scene later this year… No comment.

“But it’s now time to say, ‘that’s a wrap’. And bagel. And that the McMuffin is 99p today.”

Of course, the shock announcement didn’t go down well with avid McDonald’s fans, who were quick to respond to the restaurant to express their dismay and, most commonly, demand an answer.

One disgruntled customer wrote: “Shall be taking my breakfast custom to Greggs from now on”, while another really tugged on the heartstrings by commenting: “The wraps and bagels were the only breakfast items we ate in this house.

“I’ve not had a Maccies [sic] breakfast since the start of the pandemic and now looks like that was the last one I’ll have.”

A third wounded McDonald’s fan slammed the dismal timing of the announcement, writing: “Not only are you never giving us bagels again, you’re telling us on a damn Monday morning. McDonald’s who?”

McDonald’s is yet to provide a full explanation as to why the bagels and wraps have been dropped from the menu, with them simply telling customers it is time to move on to ‘bigger and better things’… Oh, and point out that McMuffins are 99p today.

Every silver lining, I suppose.
