Renown London bakery Gail’s could be making its first move up North, new reports have detailed this week.

According to the Manchester City Council website, Gail’s Bakery – which found life in the capital nearly two decades ago in 2005 – has submitted a planning application for the former White Stuff unit at 16 -18 King Street.

The application requests a ‘fit out to form cafe’, and was submitted last month on Tuesday September 6th.

The application’s status is currently pending consideration.

If successful, Gail’s will join the likes of London-born Italian restaurant chain Franco Manco, and the soon to be opened Petit Paris Deli, another cafe that will specialise in baked goods and Parisian influenced deli items.

Gail’s Bakery has become beloved amongst foodies in the south for its freshly-baked goods, seasonal menu of soups, sandwiches and additional sweet treats, all made in-house using the highest quality ingredients.

Gail’s now has over seventy venues in and around London, Oxford, Brighton and beyond, with the proposed Manchester venue being its first ever venture up north.

The bakery is also known for its strong sense of community, with it frequently helping out locally and sustainably with its ingredients.

It has also thrown its support behind small businesses, and its baking is based on time-honoured techniques and decades-old starters.

There’s no confirmed opening date for Gail’s just yet as the cafe is still pending approval – but if the space does get the go ahead, it could potentially open as early as next January.
