Aussie inspired Federal Cafe & Bar has been named the best in the UK and among the top 10 in the world, a recent study has revealed.

Manchester has an array of independent coffee shops, so much so, you really don’t have to walk far to stumble across one.

One that stands out in particular is the antipodean-inspired independent coffee shop Federal Cafe, which has a number of locations across Manchester.

After analysing social media data and search volume, a study conducted by Betway has revealed the most popular independent cafes in the UK and around the world.

From that study, Federal has come out on top taking the crown for the best in the UK and coming in a cool fourth place globally.

The coffee and brunch spot has grown in popularity among Mancunians and is renowned for its breakfasts, sandwiches and naturally, its coffee.

Federal stands out from the crowd raking in over one million views on TikTok, 11,332 Instagram hashtags and an annual search volume of 397,200 – making it one of the top places of choice for indie-coffee lovers.

Onibus Coffee in Tokyo, Japan, took top place for the most popular cafe in the world with over 82,000 Instagram posts under its hashtag, and 178,000 Google searches, it has become the leading destination for coffee enthusiasts from around the globe.

If you love coffee and brunch but haven’t tried Federal yet firstly, where have you been? Secondly, here’s what to expect from one of its sites…

Federal Cafes are usually pretty small and only operate on a walk-in only basis. They’re usually pretty busy too! It’s loved so much that there can be queues of people trailing around the bend just to sip a cup of its goodness. So, if you’re visiting Federal it’s best to get there early!

Now, on to the menu…

There’s a variety of breakfasts and brunches, similar to those you’ll find in sunny Oz, think smashed avo, poached eggs, banana bread and plenty more.

The Halloumi & Shrooms dish features pan fried halloumi with garlic & thyme roasted mushrooms, free range poached eggs, Fed sauce & dukkah mix on sourdough toast. You can also add avocado and chorizo for a few quid extra.

For those with a sweet tooth who prefer a dessert-style breakfast, the French Toast is another fan favourite. It features macerated berries, white chocolate & almond crumble, whipped vanilla mascarpone & salted caramel.

And, the Turkish Eggs come with free range poached eggs on whipped garlic yoghurt with hot chilli butter & za’atar, served with sourdough toast. You can add chorizo for an extra £3.
