Wine connoisseurs and crisp fanatics will soon be able to find unlikely common ground with a brand new ‘wine and crisp pairing’ event coming to Manchester.
Sustainable riverside cafe Open Kitchen is shining a whole new light on the humble bag of crisps with Chips and Sips, which will see guests sample classics like Monster Munch, Wotsits and Frazzles alongside glasses of ‘beautiful’, organic and low-intervention wines.
The principle will be the same as any other wine tasting; learn about each wine and see how they complement the various flavours in each crisp.

Open Kitchen came up with the idea for the event by wanting to combat the notion that ‘wine tastings and pairing evenings can sometimes feel intimidating, snobby, and bewildering’.
They said: “What better way to take all of the snobbery, and quite frankly the class, out of a wine tasting evening, than pairing beautiful wines with the likes of Wotsits, Frazzles, and some Monster Munch??”.
Sustainability and ethics will still be at the heart of the event, with C&O Wines having selected a range of small, independent, family-run or cooperative owned vineyards.
They have also selected wineries that have organic or minimal intervention methods at their core.

The entire evening will be suitable for vegetarians, though some snacks may not be suitable for vegans (Wotsits, we’re looking at you).
Though guests with any specific dietary requirements are still encouraged to attend, all they’ll need to do is drop an email to Open Kitchen, who will then find snack alternatives that allow them to join in with the festivities.
Chips and Sips will take place at Open Kitchen on Thursday September 22nd at 7pm, with tickets costing £27.54pp.
