Manchester institution, Peveril of the Peak, is hundreds of years old and there are allegedly some friendly ghostly helpers within its walls.

It’s quite possible that most of the oldest buildings in Britain are pubs. In Manchester, we even moved one twice to keep it intact and pulling pints. Long live The Old Welly!!

We just love a pub, don’t we?!

Some of them have been around since the 12th century so it’s only right that there is some serious paranormal activity happening within those walls.

The Peveril of the Peak is a fine institution that has been gifting us the joy of a frosty pint for over 200 years inside its Shrek-green tiled walls.

The pub was built in the 19th century and is bursting at the seams with history.

The current landlady, Nancy, is convinced of a paranormal presence within the pub. But this spirit, unlike many, is actually nice, hospitable, and somewhat helpful.

Peveril of the Peak looks like it’s been plonked down in the middle of the road because it sort of has been. The pub came first, and a persistent old landlord would not let this bad boy get knocked down to make way for the road.

So the road curves all the way around it so we can still enjoy a pint in an old, glorious pub!

Nowadays, alongside the gloriously aged oak interior, a relatively peaceful pint and even a snooker table that’s often free there’s also the ghostly helper.

The spirit is known to move glasses straight to the glass wash, with ‘customers seeing pint glasses levitate off the bar and fall into the glass-wash’.

Maybe they’re after the tips or maybe they’re just missing out on working at a bar? Who knows!?

Regulars also report seeing broken glasses disappearing, and ashtrays being emptied on their own accord, as well as chairs moving, glasses levitating and a general sense that someone is intensely watching you.

Have you ever experienced any paranormal activity at the Peveril? Let us know…
