If you’ve not seen The Stranger yet you need to head over to Netflix and start binging – a warning, though, it’s seriously addictive.

The series follows lead character Adam Price (Richard Armitage) as his life is turned upside down by a stranger (Hannah John-Kamen), when she tells him a shocking secret about his wife Corrine (Dervla Kirwan).

It’s based on Harlan Coben’s 2015 bestselling thriller novel The Stranger, and while Coben’s book is set in various locations across the US, including New Jersey and Ohio, in the TV adaptation the action unfolds in the UK.

And our region plays a central role in the series, as the vast majority of scenes are shot in Greater Manchester. Places like Bolton, Stockport, Bury, Eccles, Whalley Range and Ancoats were used to recreate the fictional town of Cedarfield.

Some locations include St Peter’s Square in the city centre, the disused Moor Lane Bus station in Bolton, the Plaza theatre and cinema in Stockport, and the Peel Memorial in Bury – this is where the decapitated alpaca is found.

The Price family home is actually located in Didsbury and is Grade II listed. It was on the market for £1.45million back in 2013 – the most expensive house in the area at the time –
and was previously a student halls of residence before renovation.

Adam Price has the bombshell dropped on him by the stranger at Cedarfield Sports Club, where his son Thomas plays football, with these scenes filmed at Monton Sports Club in Eccles. In the series the kids attend the fictional Cedarfield High School – these scenes were actually shot at the Bolton School.

Jennifer Saunders’ character Heidi owns the Brown Sugar Cafe, which is actually Café At The Cathedral, previously known as Proper Tea, located opposite Manchester Cathedral.

Suzanne Hope (Aretha Ayeh), the woman who kept faking pregnancies, lives in Mellor Place, a new development in Timekeepers Square, Salford – you can see the bell of St Philip’s Church in the background. Adam confronts her at a local coffee shop, which is actually located across town in Ancoats – it’s called Ancoats Coffee Co and it’s in the Royal Mills.

Adam’s morally dubious dad Ed Price (Anthony Head), is spotted heading out to lunch by the stranger, where she follows him from the lobby of his office, located at 3 Hardman Square.

Other honourable mentions go to the row of houses set for demolition where Martin Killane lives, which are located in Clayton, while the alpaca farm scene was shot at White Peak Alpacas in Mobberley, Cheshire.
